SHAOLIN ACADEMY CHALLENGE – 12 PEOPLE, 12 HOURS TRAINING PER DAY, ONE WEEK!  11 TO 18TH OF MAY, 2016

Shaolin Academy Challenge was organized by Frontier Trainings and Shifu Shi Yan Jun. 11 amazing people were lead by Clinton Swaine who is the founder, owner and lead trainer of Frontier Trainings – The World Leader in Experiential Business Trainings.

The participants were: Clinton Swaine (Australia), Barry Wei Liang (Singapore), Ryan Stock (USA), Elliot Kay, Darren Torecheju Monioro, Sharmela Thevarajaha and Jo Rogers (UK), Princess D (India),  Miroslav Minich (Slovakia),  Piotr Mielnik,  Patryk and Paulina Pirus(Poland).

Shaolin Academy offers the Shaolin Kung Fu warrior intensive training. The timetable is very balanced and contains many different styles such as: Shaolin Kung Fu, Shaolin Boxing (Sanda), Taiji Quan, Qigong, Meditation, Meihua Quan, Qin Na and Kung Fu Movie. The training is challenging and takes you out of your comfort zone. Although you think you are fit, think twice – Piotr, one of the participants said in the end of the course.

The challenge was not only the training but also team work, balance and immersing in the Chinese Culture. The participants took part in Chinese Medicine Class, Tea Ceremony and Calligraphy. One week packed with so many events!

First day started with an early hike to Damo, the father of Shaolin Kung Fu. Shifu Shi Yan Jun gave everyone a name from the Chinese Zodiac. The last day ended with the Buddhist morning ceremony.

One of the participants, Jo Rogers summed up her learnings for the week and this applies to almost all the participants:

1. Balance is important – you don’t train all the time, rest is as important as training. Equal and opposite. Yin and Yang.
2. Nutrition is the source of power and you cannot cheat the laws of nature
4. Kung fu is not all about kicking and punching
5. Grow your heart and internal organs, not just your physical body
6. Focus on happiness and being of service, the rest is peripheral

If the team learned many things from us, we learned as well from them. The week was an exchange of feelings and knowledge between the Academy and the team. The program ended with the show done by the participants – first part consisting of a parody from the week’s events followed by the real learning! Shifu Yan Jun gave each participant a Buddhist name as being his disciple.

Shaolin Academy Challenge will take place every two years. Anyone who is interested in attending can contact Clinton directly (Clinton@frontiertrainings.com or clintonaswaine@gmail.com) or contact the Academy (kungfushaolintemple@gmail.com).

Songshan Shaolin Traditional Wushu Academy and Shifu Yan Jun would like to express their gratitude for having the opportunity to host the Shaolin Academy and meeting such wonderful people! We will always remember the time we trained together and will cherish every memory of it!

Best Regards,

Shifu Shi Yan Jun – 34th Generation Shaolin Warrior Monk and 17th Generation Disciple of Meihua Quan
