Guanyin Pusa Birthday at Shaolin Temple, 4th of April, 2018
Guanyin Pusa (观音) birthday has been celebrated in the Shaolin Temple Kunming and had participated more than 10 000 Buddhist followers. Among them, were also our students and Masters, which participated as Security Volunteers during the festival.
In Asian Bodhisattva, Guanyin Pusa, the “GODDESS OF MERCY” has been associated with COMPASSION and MERCY. The name in Chinese is GUANSHIYIN and means “The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World”. The Deity is thought to have miraculous powers for the ones which pray for their needs. In China, a Buddhist will almost always call out “Namo Guan-Shi-Yin Pusa” if they were in trouble.
The event was a great lesson of Buddhism and Chinese Local Culture. At the Festival was also brought a white water buffalo which is very rare. The Guanyin Pusa is depicted in the Tuzhu Temple on a white water buffalo. The local tradition also depicts horses, lion and dragon dances.
The Buddhist Ceremony and chanting was guided by the Venerable Abbot of the Yunnan Shaolin Temple – Shi Yanbei Grandmaster. Before the official ceremony started, the representatives from the local Government and monks kept speeches.
After the ceremony, the procession with the statue of Guanyin Pusa passed in a long walk in the Guandu Ancient Town.
We would like to thank our students for helping the Shaolin Temple and the monks in this great event. Many of our students had an unique chance to experience directly the Buddhist Traditions.
Being students of the Shaolin Temple not only is a great experience in learning Kung Fu but living the monk lifestyle and being directly involved in the Temple life are experiences you will find no where in China! The end study period for our students will culminate with the graduation ceremony and receiving the Certification form the Venerable Abbot Grandmaster Shi Yanbei itself!
