WHY CHOSE TO TRAIN IN MAITREYA BUDDHA TEMPLE?
The story of this Temple comes from the Tang Dynasty. Maitreya Buddha, the successor of Sakyamuni and Sutra listener, impersonate the Bag Monk or the Happy Buddha. One night, the Happy Buddha dreamed of a day in the Song Dynasty. In the dream, he was on a mountain in the South of China which was looking exactly like him sitting down. With him was the chief of a tribe which had the same name.
When he woke up, he decided to find this magical place. Travelling on the Jinping Mountain, he stopped to rest. In his sleep he saw a monk smiling and walking towards him. He noticed that the monk looked like him. When he woke up, he realised that he already found the mountain he set to find.
The Happy Buddha settled on the Jinping Mountain and started to spread the Sutras. In his memory was build this unique Temple without walls. The meaning of ‘without walls’ is that the Buddha powers are unlimited. Another characteristic of this Temple are the stairs down-up which means that ‘people always move up’.
Mile City (弥勒市) is one of the best cities in Yunnan Province called the ‘Lucky Place’. The city received from the Government the distinction of 5A touristic resort. It is forbidden to have any industry which might pollute the environment, therefore is considered the cleanest city with excellent air quality. Mile is very famous for his hot springs which have therapeutic properties. It is built around lakes and mountains which makes Mile a very distinctive and exotic place to live.
MAITREYA BUDDHA TEMPLE (MILE DA FO TEMPLE)
Mile City is located in the Autonomous Prefecture of Hong He Hani and Yi minorities. The city is about 143 km away from the capital of Yunnan Province, Kunming. It has a very good infrastructure of roads and railways. It is on the route which connects Kunming to Vietnam (about 3h drive to the border).
The population of the city is about 500 000 with about 42% of ethnic minority: Han 汉族, Yi 彝族, Miao 苗族, Hui 回族, Zhuang壮族, Dai 傣族 so on.
Mile is unique in the world due to its culture. There are many cultural festivals organized over the year and the popular costumes and traditions are kept for more than 2000 years.
PLACES OF INTEREST
Mile County has many places of interest. Some are located close to the Maitreya Buddha Temple such as: The Meihua Hot Springs, Huquan Ecological Park, Yunnan Red wine, Dongfeng Park, Keyi Ethnic Village, Huquan Golf Resort, Water Park and many more.
The Meihua Hot Spring called also the Green Jade Hot Spring has thermal waters with the temperature between 42 and 54 degrees Celsius. The water is low-mineralized carbonate water which is very beneficial for rheumatic diseases. In the past, the sunset seen at this hot spring was one of the eight most famous sceneries in the Mile City.
Yunnan Red Wine Villa it is a grape garden which offers a great day out if you wish to combine the Western and Chinese culture. It is built on a surface of 20 000 ha. There are grapes varieties such Rose Honey, Cabernet Sauvignon and Wild France. If you are interested in wine, you can also attend specific workshops and see world class wine making equipment.
Keyi Village was founded in the Qing Dynasty. In 1648, Bi Wu family was the first one to move in the village. It belongs to the Yi nationality of Axi branch. At present the village has about 700 inhabitants. The traditional dance performed by the villages is famous all over China and abroad. The dance is known as Axi Moon Dance.
Mile City is located in the center of Yunnan Province and is a great starting point to visit the province. About 40km away from the city you can visit the famous Stone forest names “The First Wonder of the World”. You also can visit the Honghe valley with mountains and the famous flower beds, the Yani Rice Terraces, Yuan Yuan Rice Terraces (border with Vietnam), Xishuangbanna (border with Laos and Myanmar) with the wild jungle, Pu’er for the famous tea, Lijiang with the Snow Mountain and old city going all way up to the mysterious Shangri-La close to Tibet border.
SHOPPING & BANKING
The nearest cities where you can go shopping are: Mile and Kunming. Mile City is about 8 km away from the Maitreya Buddha Temple. You can travel by local bus (2-3 RMB) or by taxi (30 to 35 RMB one way).
In Mile City has a wide range of shops and entertainment places. There are many coffee shops, pizza restaurants and many places where you can try Chinese Traditional Medicine massages, acupuncture and other traditional methods of healing. Many hotels offer hot spring baths and the price varies depending on the budget. Every Saturday evening there is a water and lights show on the Honghe Lake. The City is built around several lakes so you can enjoy a long walk along the lake, have a boat or bicycle ride. There are many swimming pools, basketball courts, football, cricket you can enjoy.
In town there are many Bank of China ATMs which can be used to withdraw money. There is also an option to use Western Union at the Agriculture Bank.
HOW TO FIND US
The nearest airport you can travel is Kunming International Airport. From the airport in Kunming you must travel towards Mile City for the pickup. The fastest and easiest way is to follow this route:
Airport – Subway line towards Kunming South Train Station – Bullet Train to Mile City – Pick up
However, you might also prefer to travel by bus following the route:
Airport – East Bus Station – Mile Bus Station – Pick up
